Hiked this trail on 1/9/11, snowshoes were not necessary due to poor snow coverage. Very rocky! A few things to note when you are on this trail: The latest edition of the snowshoe colorado book says that there is a parking area on the left. I would say it is more of a pulloff. While there is an area on the left for maybe two vehicles, most of the parking is on the actual FR1921 road itself. Just a head's up so you are not looking for an actual parking area or marked trailhead like we were. Your best marker is a post with "1921" on it about 12 miles up. We also didn't see the "ghost" trails for the old ski area, so I recommend not using those as markers either - keep a good eye on your mileage when you turn onto Squaw Pass Road and be vigilent starting around 11.5 miles. You do start your hike on a wide FR but be very careful to not miss the sharp right that leads you onto the actual trail...you'll be on the road for a short while (less than half a mile?) and come to a place where you can continue straight-ish on the road, can drop left-ish onto another wide path (possibly a road?), or if you look up and to your right, you'll see the trail. Don't miss it. We did :-) Missing it keeps you on the road, which ends maybe a mile later at a smattering of buildings. I imagine the views from here would be beautiful on a clear day. A beautiful hike and great for it's proximity to denver!

Not much snow on the trail, we did the entire thing without putting the snowshoes on once. Wait for a good snowfall, or just hike it in some decent boots.
