Driving Directions to Mt. Evans:

Two ways to get to the Mt. Evans area from Denver: 1) Take I-70 to the El Rancho (Evergreen) exit, number 252. That exit is "Highway 74", aka Evergreen Parkway. Follow to Highway 66, Squaw Pass Road. The Mt. Evans turnout is approximately 18 miles up Squaw Pass Road. 2) Take I-70 to Idaho Springs, exit 240. Take Chicago Creek Road to the south for approximately 13.1 miles to the turnout. The Mt. Evans Road closes in the fall and is not plowed. There is a parking lot with a large hut/gift shop that is open only in the summer. From this parking lot you can circle Echo Lake, take the Chicago Lakes trail, or head off towards Lincoln Lake.

Visited December 16, 2006. There was some packed snow on the road to Mt. Evans and the trails seemed to have snow. The road driving there was completely dry. Echo Lake was frozen pretty good, no trouble walking across it.
